An Indian Navy MiG-29K naval fighter caught fire while taking off from the Dabolim Airport in Goa.

The aircraft was on a routine training flight and the pilot aborted the take off.

During deceleration, the aircraft veered off the end of runway and came to rest on its nose after its nose landing gear collapsed.

The pilot jettisoned the canopy and egressed the aircraft safely. The fire was expeditiously doused by the safety services. A Board of Inquiry has been ordered to investigate the cause of accident.

The incident marks the first involving the MiG-29K fighters acquired by Indian Navy for operating from the INS Vikramditya aircraft carrier.
