A Russian AN-148 passenger jet had crashed shortly after taking off from the Domodedovo airport in Moscow.

The Saratov Airlines Flight 6W703 was carrying 71 people, disappeared from the radar after taking off from Moscow at 11:22 UTC time.

The 2 hour 11 minute duration flight, was bound to Orsk in Urals, about 1500 km southeast of Moscow

The aircraft had crashed 5-6 minutes into the flight. The wreckage was located in snow covered region in the Ramenskoye district, about 40 km from the airport.

None on board including the 65 passengers and 6 crew members had survived the crash according to Interfax.


Eyewitness account says the aircraft was on fire prior to crash. The wreckage was spread over a wide area due to mid air disintegration of the aircraft due to the on board fire.

According to flight tracking website Flightradar24, during the final seconds before crash, the aircraft was falling with up to 22,000 feet per minute.

Russian manufactured Antonov An-148 was eight years old with registration number RA-61704.
