 An armed reconnaissance UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) of Israeli Air Force has crashed in the Southern Lebanon.

The crash was first reported by Hezbollah's al-Manar TV on Saturday morning. The wreckage indicate the crashed UAV is a Hermes 450 citing the wing and fixed landing gear.

Israeli Defense forces confirmed the incident and stated technical malfunction for the crash.


The wreckage also shows the UAV were armed with the Rafael made advanced Spike air to ground missiles.

Minutes later the crashed UAV wreckage was destroyed by another IAF Hermes 450 to prevent sensitive technologies most possibly the Spike missile, falling into the hands of Iran.

The Hermes 450 is light armed tactical UAV capable of carrying Spike ground attack missiles. It is powered by Wankel engine and has a maximum take off weight of 450 kg.
