A Lion Air Boeing 737 was involved in a runway excursion accident after landing at the Gorontalo-Jalaluddin Airport (GTO) in Indonesia.

The aircraft skidded off the runway and veered to the left and got stuck in the slushy ground.

The flight #JT892 originated from the Makassar-Sultan Hasanuddin international airport carrying 174 passengers and 7 crew members.

The members were evacuated by two forward emergency escape slides and none of them were injured.

Heavy rain has been cited as the cause for the incident.

The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800 with registration PK-LOO was built in 2014. The plane has sustained structural damage including to its engines.
