An US Air Force F-16C diverted to Lake Havasu City Municipal Airport, Lake Havasu City, Arizona was damaged during landing at approximately 10:35 a.m. on Tuesday, local time during a routine training flight.
During landing the aircraft departed the prepared surface and the pilot ejected from the aircraft. The aircraft has visibly sustained major damage to nose and aft engine section.
The pilot involved in the incident was released from Havasu Regional Medical Center later.
The aircraft was assigned to the 56th Fighter Wing based at the Luke Air Force Base. An interim safety investigation board has been established for the incident and will conduct a full investigation.
Flying operations at Luke Air Force Base resumed on that afternoon after pausing for several hours.
