Russian Navy successfully test fired four submarine launched Bulava intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM) in salvo mode on Tuesday.
The missiles were fired from a submerged Borei class Yuri Dolgoruky submarine in the White Sea against target on the opposite side of Russia, at the Kura missile test range located in northern Kamchatka Krai in the Russian Far East.
The successful test firing confirms Bulava's improved reliability after experiencing several failed test launches.
The missile weighing 36 tonnes has a strike range of 5000 miles (8000 km) with a 1 tonne nuclear or conventional payload.
The Russian Navy currently has three 955 Borei nuclear submarines, which were produced for the Bulava ICBM. Each of them can carry up to 16 Bulava missiles.
In 2016, during a two salvo launch one of the Bulava missile exploded shortly after launch from the submarine.
