The second prototype of the Russian MC-21 single aisle passenger jet completed maiden flight from the Irkutsk Aviation Plant on May 12.
The aircraft incorporates modifications based on the feed backs from the flight testing of the first prototype.
The aircraft flew for 1 hour and 7 minutes at an altitude of 3000 meters and reached speeds of up to 400 km/h.
The flight program included testing the aircraft for stability and controllability for various wing configurations with cleaning and landing gear, as well as testing the on-board equipment performance.
The aircraft was piloted by a crew of test pilots Vasily Sevastyanov and Andrei Voropayev. According to Vasily Sevastyanov, the flight task was completed in full, the flight was in normal mode.
In total, 4 MC-21-300 aircraft will be involved in flight tests, along with two static test airframes.
The aircraft is powered by the Pratt & Whitney PW1400G engines, and the Russian PD-14 engine will be offered later, after completing the development and certification.
In February 2018 Aeroflot signed a firm contract with the leasing company Aviakapital-Service (as part of Rostec State Corporation) for the delivery of 50 MS-21-300 aircraft.
