 A U.S. Air Force B-2 Stealth Bomber aircraft was involved in a runway mishap on Sept 14, while operating from its home base,  Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri.

As per official US Air Force statement, the incident occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. The  B-2 Spirit bomber experienced and in flight malfunction during a routine training flight, and was damaged on runway during the emergency landing.

Satellite pictures from Planet Labs show the aircraft exited the runway and veered into the right side of runway, and came to rest in the grass field, with one the wheel collapsed.

The aircraft came to rest at less than half of the runway, indicating a very high braking.


The B-2 bomber is still the world’s premier stealth bomber, its low observable characteristics allow it to carry out strikes any where in the world.

USAF fleet consist of 20 B-2 flying wing bombers developed by the Northrop Grumman in 1980s.
