Australian Air Force Chief, Air Marshal Geoff Brown, today confirmed its fleet of six Boeing C-17A Globemaster had achieved Final Operational Capability (FOC).

The first four C-17A Globemasters achieved FOC in 2011, and the fifth and sixth C-17 recently. FOC is declared when the entire capability can be deployed on operations. FOC considers the personnel, training, major systems, supplies, facilities and training areas, logistics, support, command and management.

RAAF’s C-17A Globemasters are operated by Number 36 Squadron at RAAF Base Amberley in Queensland. The C-17A Globemaster is a high-wing four-engine heavy transport aircraft capable of rapidly deploying troops, supplies, combat vehicles, heavy equipment and helicopters anywhere in the world. It is capable to operate from austere and semi prepared runways and to descend steeply.
