Royal Air Force's world renowned Red Arrows aerial display team unveiled its new tail fin design marking their 50th display season.

The new design was unveiled at the team’s home base, RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire. Only the tailfin livery has been changed, keeping their iconic red and white fuselage same.

The new scheme will be flown throughout the team’s 2014 display season, which begins at the end of May and runs until September. Designed by the Air Media Centre at RAF High Wycombe,

 In the shape of a Union flag, the tailfin design features outlines of both aircraft types as a tribute to the Team's heritage and current operations.

 The Team originally flew Folland Gnat jets but switched to the BAE Systems Hawk trainer jet in 1980s.

Since that first performance in May 1965, millions of people all around the world have been thrilled by the Red Arrows’ trademark precision flying, impressive formations, close-passes and dynamic loops and rolls.

The Team consist of nine display pilots, all of whom are from frontline squadrons and are experienced pilots previously operating the Tornado or the Typhoon multi-role combat aircrafts. There is 120 support staff in the Red Arrows, including operations and flight planners, engineering technicians, photographers etc.
