Australia has extended sustainment contract with Boeing for its E-7A Wedgetail AEW&CS fleet by 5 years.

The $901 million contract consists sustainment of the Royal Australian Air Force’s E-7A Wedgetail fleet, including engineering and maintenance support, repairs, spare parts and aircrew and maintenance training for the Wedgetail fleet.

Of the $901 million, $433 million will be spent in Australia, $275m in Newcastle, $80m for Brisbane and Ipswich and $78m for Adelaide.

The fleet is operated by 2 Squadron at RAAF Williamtown, and consists six E-7A Wedgetail aircraft, a full flight simulator, an operational mission simulator, a software development and test laboratory and maintenance facilities.

Based on the Boeing Next-Generation 737-700 commercial airplane, the 737 AEW&C aircraft is designed to provide airborne battle-management capability with an advanced multirole electronically scanned radar and 10 state-of-the-art mission crew consoles that are able to track airborne and maritime targets simultaneously.

The mission crew can direct offensive and defensive forces while maintaining continuous surveillance of the operational area.

Boeing has also delivered Wedgetails to Turkey and South Korea.
