Swedish Saab has signed a contract with Brazilian Army to deliver an undisclosed no of the RBS 70 Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORAD) worth approximately $13 million. The deal comprises an RBS 70 man-portable launchers, Mk II type missiles, simulators, night vision equipment, a test set, maintenance tools, spares, associated equipment, and training.

First deliveries are expected in 2014. The air defence system will be deployed for the protection of major upcoming events in Brazil, 2014 FIFA World Cup, and the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. RBS 70 is an unjammable laser-guided missile system, unaffected by countermeasures, heat sources and clutter.

The RBS 70 can be used in multiple configurations ranging from MANPADS (Man-portable air defence system) to remotely controlled and vehicle as well as ship integrated air defence systems.
