Embraer rolled out the first production E-175 regional airliner with aerodynamic improvements increasing fuel efficiency.

The modifications included, a new wingtip, systems optimization, and streamlining of aerodynamic surfaces.

The aircraft was rolled out at a ceremony at the company’s São José dos Campos facility on 12 March.

The modified E175 aircraft achieved 6.4% lower fuel burn than the current E175, exceeding earlier-reported savings of up to 5%, during several months of performance trials.

Improvements also resulted in longer maintenance intervals, increased productivity and lower maintenance costs. These improvements ensure that the airplane will remain competitive until the second generation of the jet, the E175-E2, goes into operation in 2020 with better operating efficiency.
E175 made its first flight on June 2003. It is powered by two General Electric CF34-8E5 turbofan engines and can cruise up to 37,000 ft.
