The Superjet 100 is the first Russian passenger jet designed to western standards, and is designed by Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company along with Italian Alenia Aermacchi.
The maiden flight of the first SSJ prototype was carried out in 2008, and took three years to achieve Russian Type Certificate. The aircraft is mainly operated by Russia, and is yet to receive orders from western airlines. InterJet is the only western airline, who has place order for 20 aircraft.
Currently 55 Superjets are operated by airlines. Russian operators included Aeroflot - 19 aircraft, Gazpromavia - 8 aircraft, Yakutia - 2 aircraft, Center-South - 3 aircraft, Red Wings - 3 aircraft, The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs - 1 aircraft. The foreign airlines include InterJet (Mexico) - 15 aircraft, Sky Aviation (Indonesia) - 3 aircraft, and Lao Central Airlines (Laos) - 1 aircraft.
The SSJ has achieved the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) CS-25 Certification in the category “Large Airplane”.
Consequently, the PowerJet (a joint venture between NPO Saturn and Snecma) SaM146 engines has clocked more than 200 000 flight hours.
