Florida based Spirit Airline became the first U.S. Airline to take the improved Airbus A320neo single aisle passenger jet.

Headquartered in Miramar, the airline took delivery of the very first of 50 A320neo Family aircraft the low-cost carrier has ordered, on Tuesday.


All of Spirit’s A320neo Family aircraft will be powered by Pratt & Whitney Pure Power PW1100-JM Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines.

The Airbus A320neo will be the 90th aircraft to join Spirit's growing fleet and is set to add five Airbus A320neos to its network by the end of the year.

The A320neo (new engine option) Family incorporates the very latest technologies including new generation engines and Sharklets, which together deliver more than 15 percent fuel savings from day one and 20 percent by 2020.

With nearly 4,800 orders received from 87 customers since its launch in 2010, the A320neo Family has captured some 60 percent share of the market. Including Spirit’s A320neo delivered today, 26 A320neo aircraft have been delivered to nine operators
