India has successfully tested an new precision guided bomb capable of engaging ground targets from standoff distances.

Defense and Research Development Organization (DRDO) flight tested the Smart Anti-Airfield Weapon (SAAW) from an Indian Air Force (IAF) Specat Jaguar fighter-bomber aircraft.

Weighing 120 kg, the indigenous SAAW is specifically designed for anti-airfield operation, being able to strike a target at a distance of 100 km.

The captive and release trials were tracked by Radar and Telemetry ground stations at ITR during the entire duration of the flight. The performance of all systems were satisfactory with all the mission objectives achieved.

Unpowered SAAW is equipped with onboard navigation systems which can guide the bomb to its target after release from the carrier jet.

The SAAW was first tested in last May, from a IAF Jaguar Darin II upgraded aircraft from Bangalore.

In 2014, India had successfully tested a 1 ton guided bomb which can be guided to a target at a distance of 100 km.
